Michael C. Hall will take over as the lead in the hit Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch after current star Andrew Rannells ends his run in October.

Hedwig, which earned Neil Patrick Harris a Tony for his performance as the titular character, tells the story of Hedwig Schmidt, a transgender woman from communist East Berlin who fronts a rock ‘n’ roll band. Harris’ successor, Rannells from the HBO show Girls, is garnering equally rave reviews for his turn as the embittered but fiercely determined singer. Rannells ends his run in the show on October 12th.

Hall has mostly been known for his TV work. He starred in Showtime’s series Dexter for seven years, which earned the actor several Emmy nods for his turn as a blood spatter analyst/serial killer. Prior to that, he played the role of sexually conflicted funeral director David Fisher on Alan Ball’s dark family drama Six Feet Under.

The 43-year-old actor is no stranger to the stage, however. In 1999, he appeared in Cabaret, replacing Alan Cumming, as the flamboyant emcee. He also just recently returned to Broadway for The Realistic Joneses, which wrapped up in July.

Michael C. Hall will strap on the miniskirt, platform heels and a whole lotta glitter come October 16th.
