The main reason: the film’s based on the true story of Walter Keane, who in the ‘50s and ’60s, apparently took credit for his wife Margaret’s paintings, which featured big-eyed children. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Reynolds were originally attached to the project for the lead roles, with Burton serving only as producer. If the trailer is any indication, it looks like Burton made the right move.
Big Eyes is slated for a Christmas Day 2014 release through The Weinstein Company.
