Michael Phelps Arrested For DUI

Michael Phelps was arrested for DUI this morning.

It’s being reported that Michael was pulled over at around 1:40 a.m. in Baltimore, Maryland and his B.A.C. level was twice the legal limit! The Maryland Transportation Authority released a statement saying that Michael was driving his white Land Rover and was pulled over for speeding. The officer gave the Olympic swimmer a field sobriety test and Michael failed.

Here’s the MDTA’s statement, “A Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police Officer was operating stationary radar on southbound I-395 leaving Baltimore City when a White 2014 Land Rover entered the radar’s area of influence at excessive speed (84 mph in a 45 mph zone). The officer followed the vehicle onto northbound I-95, through the tunnel and initiated an enforcement stop just beyond the tunnel’s toll plaza. Mr. Phelps was identified as the driver by his driver’s license and appeared to be under the influence. He was unable to perform satisfactorily a series of standard field sobriety tests. Mr. Phelps was cooperative throughout the process.”

Police say that Michael was charged with DUI, excessive speeding, and crossing double lane lines. This isn’t the first time Michael’s been in trouble with the law. He was arrested for DUI in 2004, he was only 19 at the time. In that case, he pled guilty and got 18 months of probation.

Michael’s Team USA swimming teammate, Ryan Lochte, just commented on Michael’s arrested. Ryan told TMZ, “I’m not concerned … he just makes dumb decisions. He has so much money to get a driver. I even have a driver. Just stinks for the sport of swimming. But he will become smarter from this. Luckily he did not hurt himself or someone else.”

UPDATE: Michael just tweeted an apology after his DUI arrest.

News of Michael’s arrest comes just one day after we learned of Amanda Bynes’ arrest for DUI. What do you think of all these arrests? Sound off in the comments!
