Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett’s ‘Cheek to Cheek’ is the No. 1 Album in the Country

Here’s some good news for fans of bizarre pop sensations and jazz aficionados: Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett’s Cheek to Cheek just debuted atop the Billboard 200 album chart.

Billboard reports that Cheek to Cheek — which sold 131,000 copies — narrowly edged out a new album from Kenny Chesney (his The Big Revival movied 130,000 copies to land at No. 2). Last week’s No. 1 album, Barbara Streisand’s Partners, comes in at No. 3 with 127,000 sold.

With this No. 1, Bennett bests his own record as the oldest person to debut atop the Billboard 200 in the history of the chart. Who knows, maybe Madonna will beat his record when she finally releases new music. (These are the jokes!)

While 131,000 copies doesn’t sound like a huge number (especially compared to some of Gaga’s previous first-week numbers), when you consider it is is an album of jazz standards, it is actually quite impressive. For comparison, Britney SpearsBritney Jean sold 107,000 copies its first week on shelves, so 131,000 is certainly nothing to scoff att.
