Lorde’s “Royals” is Banned from San Francisco Airwaves

Sorry Lorde fans! There won’t be any “Royals” allowed in San Francisco, at least not until the World Series has come to an end.

Not wanting to jinx their beloved team, the San Francisco Giants, two San Francisco radio stations have banned Lorde’s chart topping song.

The Giants are taking on the Kansas City Royals this week for the title, and as it turns out, “Royals” has a pretty special connection to the baseball team.

The artist was inspired by the word “royals” after seeing an old National Geographic photo of Royals player George Brett autographing baseballs. In commemoration of Lorde’s success, Brett sent her a special signed Royals jersey earlier this year.

In response to San Francisco’s temporary ban, one Kansas radio station will be playing “Royals” on the hour every hour from 7 am to 7 pm on Tuesday, the day of Game 1. Nothing like a little friendly competition!
