Emma Watson Covers Elle UK’s First-Ever Feminism Issue
The 24-year-old actress is the perfect choice for the cover, given that she’s taking a huge stand for women’s rights. Remember that amazing HeForShe speech she gave last month? Yeah, Watson is the best. Inside the magazine, Watson talks all about her fight for gender equality. Read on to see what she had to say!
Last month, we talked about the incredible speech Watson gave at the United Nations. It was there that her HeForShe campaign was launched, inspiring men and women to fight for gender equality. Since that time, Watson has become a feminist icon. Plus, did you know Emma’s the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador? She’s basically our hero.
So, how did Watson feel about giving her speech before the UN? She revealed to the magazine, “I was very nervous. It wasn’t an easy thing for me to do. It felt like: ‘Am I going to have lunch with these people, or am I going to be eaten? Am I the lunch?'”

What made Watson want to become an activist? Watson told Elle UK, “Fame is not something I have always felt comfortable with; I have really grappled with it emotionally. And, in a funny way, doing this is my way of making sense of the fame, of using it. I have found a way to channel it towards something else, which makes it so much more manageable for me. And this is something I really believe in.”
Watson really wants people to be open to feminism. “Feminism is not here to dictate to you. It’s not prescriptive, it’s not dogmatic. All we are here to do is give you a choice. If you want to run for President, you can. If you don’t, that’s wonderful, too.” We love her!
