Lena Dunham took to Twitter on Saturday to go on a self-described “rage spiral”.

The “disgusting” allegations against her are – shockingly – for sexually abusing her younger sister, Grace.

Kevin D. Williamson, a columnist for (conservative) magazine National Review, accused Dunham for admitting to sexual abuse in her new memoir, Not That Kind of Girl.

Pointing out a couple of specific passages in her book, in his article entitled “Pathetic Privilege”, he writes:

“Dunham writes of casually masturbating while in bed next to her younger sister, of bribing her with ‘three pieces of candy if I could kiss her on the lips for five seconds … anything a sexual predator might do to woo a small suburban girl I was trying.’ At one point, when her sister is a toddler, Lena Dunham pries open her vagina — ‘my curiosity got the best of me,’ she offers, as though that were an explanation.”

Whether you know Lena Dunham from her HBO show Girls, or her otherwise powerful influence upon the social zeitgeist, we know she’s the kind of girl to take a stand. She responded via Twitter, writing:

Yikes. Buzzfeed took a look further into the debate happening on Twitter, and it isn’t exactly pretty (controversy never is).

Dunham’s friend Clementine Ford came to her defense, tweeting:

Meanwhile, Dunham appeared in London on Friday for her book tour, but has since cancelled her Germany and Belgium legs. She tweeted apologies to those who were set to attend.
