What does Katy Perry regret about her Russell Brand marriage?
Not everything is sunshine and life-sized Cheetos for Katy Perry.

During her latest appearance on Australia’s The Project, the “This Is How We Do” singer opened up about her inner demons and struggles with depression following her 2011 split with husband Russell Brand, revealing that she thought about killing herself at the time.

Explaining that she documented her dark times in her song “By the Grace of God,” Perry said, “Sometimes you can be blinded by your extreme emotions. I definitely was looking for answers, and during that time I wrote that song. And yeah, I was depressed, and it was sad, and there were thoughts, but there were never actions, thankfully.”

“I wanted to share that side of my story, because I know there are so many other people out there that have gone through things like that, and you always feel like you’re the only one going through that,” she continued. “Well, then comes along a song that speaks to you, that makes you feel like, ‘Gosh, I can get through this. If she can get through this, I can get through this.'”

Previously, Perry, 30, confessed that she underwent an alcohol detox program after Brand, 39, called off their marriage via text.

“I’m not the kind of person who is always like, ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,’” she said in a 2013 interview with the Sunday Times. “I was in bed for about two weeks. I was pretty fucked, yes. It hurt a lot—I got a good knock.”

“My self-worth was in someone else’s hands which is never a good idea, because it can be taken from you at any time. And it was, and it was shattered,” she added.

According to Perry, the reason behind their break-up was because she “wasn’t ready” to have kids. Meanwhile, Brand argued that the two had split because of “incompatibility” in their relationship. Their divorce was ultimately finalized in 2012.
