Charli XCX Gets Candid About Feminism, Being a Beyonce Fan and Embracing Your Crazy
If you’re not already a fan of Charli XCX (who just released her new song “Gold Coins” – listen here!), you should be; she’s about to be one of THE hottest things in pop, like when Katy Perry tasted cherry chapstick, and the rest became history.
The “Boom Clap” singer spoke to Nylon about her love for Queen Bey, saying “I admire women like Beyoncé for putting themselves on the line and having visuals that say ‘feminism.'”
We love Bey too, Charli.
rule-breaking, anti-diva” said, “I feel very comfortable in my own skin. I’ve never stripped as a stripper, but when I was younger and playing at raves, I would take off some of my clothes — which was kind of weird because sometimes my parents would be there.”
Certainly a positive influence in the music industry, Charli XCX encourages her fans to raise their freak flag, and do something crazy – if that means throwing tampons on stage, then by all means throw tampons on stage; Charli XCX is okay with that.
“At my shows—especially for the girls—I want them to feel like they are empowering themselves by being wild and doing whatever the f–k they want,” she explains. “I get tampons thrown on the stage as well [as bras and panties]. Not used. They’re clean, but there’s gonna be a used one at one point, and I’m ready for it.”
Charli XCX has had a big year, collaborating on hits like Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” and Icona Pop’s “I Love It”. She’s also on the new Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part I soundtrack (for her track “Kingdom”). Finally, her new album Sucker is slated to be released on December 16, 2014.
“Gold Coins” is the latest song released from Charli XCX’s new album. Listen to it below, and don’t stop yourself from dancing!
