Sophie Simmons Talks Fashion Line, New Year’s Eve Go-To Styles
Seeing how 2015 is just right around the corner, we’ve asked Sophie Simmons, the daughter of legendary Kiss rocker Gene Simmons and model Shannon Tweed, to give us a few pointers on how we can revamp our look and ring in the new year in style.
Teaming up with The Style Club, the 22-year-old has launched a New Year’s Eve fashion collection that is comfortable and flattering for anyone — yes, and we mean anyone -- who wants to add a little sparkle to their wardrobe. As an advocate for positive body image, Simmons hopes to prove that beauty isn’t about some number on a tag sewed into your dress.
What made you want to design a fashion line that looks great on all body types?
We have size 00 through 18. We kind of tackle that middle size that I am that I’ve been struggling to shop for my whole life. Street size stops at 6 and plus size starts at 12 so there’s nothing really that covers that middle ground. We wanted to make a New Year’s Eve collection that covers all body types.
What else inspired your fashion line?
We were inspired by women that blazed the trail before us, that’s why all the pieces are named after people that influenced our lives and women that we look up to. We have a Lena Dunham dress and a Kate Middleton dress. We are inspired by these ladies and we try to incorporate their style to the dress and kind of mesh it with what I like.

Who would you like to make a dress for next?
I think I’d like to make a Cameron Diaz dress. I feel like she’s pretty fearless with her minis. I think we can do something fun for spring.
What would you say is your go-to style for New Year’s Eve?
For me, because I’m a curvier body type, I like something that gives me a little support and something a little stretchy so I can move and dance. So I’ll most likely be wearing our Lena Dress.

What are some accessories a girl must have for the new year?
Because I travel so much, it’s really important to me that I keep my suitcase light. I try to just have a go-to necklace. Right now, for me it’s just this big gold, lengthy necklace with no embellishments so it just adds a little shine to your outfit. It goes with almost everything. It’s just an easy thing to throw in your suitcase.
What is the one fashion rule you constantly find yourself breaking?
Just one?! [Laughs] Oh God! My mom told me since I was little that you can only wear three colors at a time and I constantly find myself wearing five or six.
