Katy Perry Confirms What We Already Knew: Iconic ‘Mean Girls’ Tweet Was About Taylor Swift

Katy Perry currently has a lot on her plate. For example: this weekend’s Super Bowl Halftime Show. Still, despite her busy schedule, it’s nice to know she has the time and energy to address the most important pop music feud of the last year: her beef with Taylor Swift.

As you may recall, Swift included a song about Perry called “Bad Blood” on her blockbuster 1989 album. Before the song was even released, Swift told Rolling Stone that the song was written about a popular female musician whom she considered to be her “straight-up enemy.” She also accused the unnamed pop star of trying to “sabotage” a world tour. Fans were quick to identify Perry as the pop star in question. Though neither party ever actually confirmed it, Perry tweeted the following during the initial hubbub:

And thus, a Shade War was born.

In an interview with Billboard, Perry was asked to confirm if the tweet was, in fact, about Swift. She did, in a roundabout way: “If somebody is trying to defame my character, you’re going to hear about it,” Perry said.

And hear about it we did. Now, all that remains to be seen is whether Perry will use her Super Bowl platform to shade Swift. Place your bets.
