Val Kilmer Rushed to the Hospital for a Bleeding Throat Tumor
Val Kilmer has been hospitalized after the actor started bleeding from his throat earlier this week.
Paramedics were called to the 55-year-old’s Malibu, Calif. home Monday night after someone called 911 and reported that the Top Gun star was bleeding. After he was taken to the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, doctors determined that Kilmer had a throat tumor.
He is currently in recovery after surgery.
According to TMZ, Kilmer’s family are upset with the actor because the actor has known about the problem for a while but has ignored the symptoms and allowed the tumor to get worse.
In October, Kilmer claimed he couldn’t speak due to a swollen tongue while in small claims court over a dispute with his former landlord. He was last seen in public Jan. 16 at a Clippers game with his son Jack. At the time, Kilmer had his neck covered with a scarf.
Update — Jan. 31, 5:00 p.m. ET:
Val Kilmer issued a statement via his Facebook page, denying he had surgery removing a tumor from his neck.
Thank you for all your sweet support. But I have not had a tumor, or a tumor operations, or any operation. I had a complication where the best way to receive care was to stay under the watchful eye of the ucla ICU. Friends have assisted who know my spiritual convictions and have been most sensitive and kind for the extra effort in making sure there’s minimum gossip and silly talk. I am praying for a speedy return to the boards as they say. God bless you all and please don’t worry. Love and deep affection , Val
