WATCH: John Mayer Throws Shade at Ex-Girlfriend Taylor Swift

Right shark
Katy Perry stole Taylor Swift's back-up dancer
John Mayer called out his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift and their (still) awkward relationship, and even Swifties can admit it was hilarious.

Once upon a time, the two singers dated; now nearly six years later, and things seem to be no less uncomfortable between the two, especially at public functions like Sunday’s upcoming 57th annual Grammy Awards.

The 37-year-old singer, who is rumored to be dating Super Bowl pop star Katy Perry once again, hosted CBS’s The Late Late Show for a third night in a row last night (Friday, Feb. 6, 2015).

During his opening monologue, Mayer joked about his 3-night hosting stint and how one night was just enough (truly, what can top an interview with #LeftShark), and took a moment to cherish his frigid relationship with Swift, 25.

He joked cheekily, “You can see me at the Grammys doing what I do best, being avoided by Taylor Swift. That won’t make the Internet at all.”

Laughs ensued.

Mayer and Swift dated briefly back in 2009, and collaborated on the song “Half of My Heart”. After they broke up, in 2010, Swift wrote the song “Dear John” after him. Mayer later said he was “humiliated” by the song, and may or may not have wrote his own break-up song about Taylor too.

Swift and Perry also have notorious high school drama beef; Swift of course wrote a song about it (“Bad Blood”, which is on her latest album 1989).

Whether it’s Mayer or Perry that Swift is avoiding at this year’s Grammy’s doesn’t really matter. At least we know that John Mayer can joke about it (and look cute doing it too).
