Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter Tie the Knot on Valentine’s Day
The couple had a dream Valentine’s Day wedding on the Isle of Wight in England today (Feb. 14, 2015).
Cumberbatch, 38, and Hunter, 36, are also expecting their first child together. The Sherlock heartthrob may have broke millions of Cumberbitches’ hearts today, but at least we have a Cumberbaby to look forward to!
The duo exchanged vows in a private ceremony at St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church in Mottistone, followed by a reception at Mottistone Manor, a 650-acre estate with picturesque gardens. Both are located on the Isle of Wight, England’s largest island (and a scenery fit for the likes of those in Downton Abbey).
The location even has a regal seal of approval. Queen Victoria built a summer residence in Mottistone with her husband, Prince Albert, and it’s where the great poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson once resided.
Hunter, who is a playwright and avant-garde theater director, reportedly has familial ties to Mottistone Manor; a local townsperson told People that Hunter and the Nicholson family, who lives on the estate, are related and that the Nicholson family, who are descendants of the 1st Lord Mottistone, bequeathed the estate to the National Trust in 1963.
Around 40 guests were reportedly seen arriving at the medieval church, constructed in the 12th century, according to People.
The couple met in 2009 on the set of Burlesque Fairytales. They announced their engagement the old-school way via The Times (a British newspaper) in November 2009, and are expecting their birth of their first child later this year.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
