Doctors have performed a tracheotomy on Bobbi Kristina Brown after the daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown was found facedown and unresponsive in a bathtub on Jan 31.

A source tells Us Weekly that it’s a “normal procedure after a certain amount of time on a breathing tube” to help prevent infections that can develop when bacteria is allowed to enter the lungs through the ventilator. Currently, Bobbi Kristina is in a medically induced coma at Atlanta’s Emory University Hospital.

According to E! News, Bobbi’s family is in the process of bringing her into consciousness.

Previously, Bobby’s lawyer, Christopher Brown (no relation), released a statement on behalf of the singer to clear up rumors that he plans to take his daughter off life support.

“The integrity of the events that led to the hospitalization of Bobbi Kristina must remain uncompromised,” the statement read “Various members of the family have provided media interviews, however, none of them are approved visitors to see Bobbi Kristina.”

“We continue to request privacy in this matter,” he added. “We thank everyone that supports Bobbi Kristina and God is hearing our prayers.”
