The internet and the show’s viewers went wild over Joan Rivers’ notable absence during the In Memoriam segment at the Academy Awards on Sunday.

But while fans are outraged, her daughter Melissa Rivers is taking the high road. The Fashion Police producer says she would have loved to see her mother’s name during the show, but is more comforted by the outpouring of love and support for her family over the months since her passing.

She wrote on Joan’s Facebook page: “It would have been nice, especially considering the impact she had on the awards season, but [my son] Cooper and I have been overwhelmed with support and love over my mom’s passing and we choose to focus on that.”

The Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences also released a statement about the omission: “Joan Rivers is among the many worthy artists and filmmakers we were unfortunately unable to feature in the In Memoriam segment of this year’s Oscar show. She is, however, included in our In Memoriam gallery on Oscar.com.”

While Joan did have small roles in The Muppets Take Manhattan and Spaceballs as well as writing and directing Rabbit Test, she was more known as a comedy and television personality. However, there’s no doubt she was a major fixture on the red carpet at the Oscars and throughout awards season and will go down in history as such.

Joan passed away in Sept. 2014 from anoxic encephalopathy due to hypoxic arrest during a minor outpatient procedure.
