How has Cameron Diaz maintained her sexy, toned body all these years? Dieting, exercise… and sex.
Yes, the 42-year-old actress — who just recently tied the knot with Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden — told Cosmopolitan U.K. that her sex life is important to staying healthy, both mentally and physically.
“It’s something healthy that we need to be doing for many different reasons,” she told the magazine.
This isn’t the first time Diaz has shared similar thoughts about the importance of sex. In an interview with British Vogue in 2010, she said, “The fountain of youth [for me], let’s see… I guess it’s exercise, healthy diet, lots of water, lots of laughter, lots of sex — yes, sex, we need that as human beings. It’s healthy, it’s natural, it’s what we are here to do!”
Sex aside, however, she also believes in living a balanced lifestyle and exercising consistently.
“You have to just do it,” she says of working out. “Once you commit and really put in the effort, your body goes, ‘Oh, it’s not OK to be without this.’ People say, ‘My body rejects exercise.’ No, it doesn’t. Your mind rejects exercise.”
However, that’s not to say Diaz doesn’t allow herself a little R&R. The actress supports a lifestyle of treating herself and indulging from time to time.
“Well-being is an equation,” she explains. “Remember, you don’t have to have the whole cake, you can have a piece. Don’t deprive yourself. Have fun. Just be self-aware. If your equation is 80% good, 20% bad most of the time, then a little movement toward the center isn’t going to affect you much.”
But one thing you won’t see her doing? Posting her diet and workout tips on Instagram. She quit social media in Sept. 2014 and doesn’t plan to return.
“I think social media is a crazy-ass experiment on society,” she said. “The way people use it to get validation from a bunch of strangers is dangerous. What’s the point?”
