Britney Spears’ ‘Oops!…I Did It Again’ Without Music Is a Strange and Wonderful Thing
Friends, it’s time to go back to the year 2000. Yes, the year when the world watched Britney Spears sing and dance in “space” and more importantly, the year we met that red latex suit in the “Oops!…I Did It Again” music video.
One of pop culture’s most treasured music videos is making a comeback this week thanks to Austrian sound designer extraordinaire Mario Wienerroither, also known as the guy behind those music videos without music. (Sia’s “Chandelier,” Elvis Presley’s “Blue Suede Shoes,” and OK Go’s “Here It Goes Again” are some recent favorites).
Without the pop beats, “Oops!” is nothing more than a squeaky mess. A squeaky mess accompanied by the fire shooting out of a fake planet Mars.
