Thief Who Stole Lupita Nyong’o’s Oscar Dress Will Not Be Charged
There’s a very lucky thief running around Hollywood.
The man who stole the Calvin Klein number Lupita Nyong’o wore to this year’s Academy Awards is getting off scot free. TMZ reports the brand has told Los Angeles County Sheriff Department that they will not be pursuing the case now that the dress is back with its right owner.
The gown was recently found by law enforcement officers in a bathroom at The London in West Hollywood, Calif. just days after it was taken from Nyong’o’s room at the same hotel. The location of the dress was actually revealed off by the burglar himself.
According to the culprit, he stole the all-white frock when he noticed Nyong’o’s room when he noticed that her door had been left ajar. He had only returned the dress when he found out that the pearls were fake after two were appraised by an expert at the Garment District. At the time, the thief said he phoned in with the tip because he wanted to expose “Hollywood’s fake bullshit.”
Before the incident, Calvin Klein’s team claimed that the dress, supposedly adorned with 6,000 Akoya pearls, was worth $150,000.
