7 Things You Learn When You’re Amber Rose’s Personal Assistant
With her days spent clapping back at slut-shamers and feuding with Kanye West and Khloé Kardashian, it’s no wonder that Amber Rose needs an assistant to handle her day-to-day schedule. Enter Benji Carlisle.
The 25-year-old, who has been the model’s right hand man since last summer, has spilled to Cosmopolitan about just what it takes to be Rose’s close confidant. From dealing with haters to deciding photo angles, here is what you need to know about being an assistant to someone like Rose.
1. You take twerking videos.
It’s no secret that Rose has some truly serious twerking skills (see: here, here, here and here). According to Carlisle, he is actually the man who captures most of it. “I’m usually the mastermind behind all — I can’t say all the pictures— but I’m usually the mastermind behind the photos or videos that get controversy,” he says. “I shot almost every twerking video. I did all the ones of her and [Blac] Chyna. I did all the ones of her in Trinidad.”
2. You also take photos of Rose in that g-string monokini.
“She was on her way to go tan [when that happened], because she tans every two days. And I was like, ‘Miss Rose, baby, you can’t just go tan in that, you definitely have to take a picture … Let me take a couple pictures. You don’t even have to post them, this is just for you because you look so good right now,'” he recalls. “And then she’s like, ‘You think I should post this?’ and I’m like, ‘It doesn’t matter, Miss Rose. Could you post it? Yeah. But if you don’t, they still look good.’ I’m always encouraging. And she posted them.”
3. You probably get fed good food.
“I live with her, but she cooks for herself,” Carlisle says. “She makes cheesesteaks, she loves fixing anything Italian — meatballs, noodles, pasta bolognese.”
4. You hang out all the time.
Carlisle says, “We dance all the time — if we’re not [hiking] at Runyon Canyon, we’re dancing because that’s all workout. She’s like, ‘Benji, I feel like making a video.’ And my response is like, ‘OK, Miss Rose. What song should I listen to?’ Then she’ll be like, ‘You ready?’ Then I do it.”
5. You have to know Rose’s angles.
“She’s very particular — if you take a picture of her, she likes a certain angle,” he dishes. “It’s all about the frame, she says, about the whole frame of everything. I’m naturally gifted and creative, so I know the correct frame automatically.”

6. You gain a lot of followers.
Carlisle says he became an Instagram sensation when Rose, who was vacationing in Trinidad at the time, shared a photo of him in his Carnival costume on her feed. “I got 15,000 followers in one day,” he says. “I didn’t think I’d get the response I did. We never think about the response [an Instagram photo] will get. At all.”
7. You let Amber Rose be Amber Rose.
Though many celebrities have handlers managing their social media accounts, Carlisle insists that everything sent out from Rose’s Twitter and Instagram are entirely of her own doing. “If she feuds, she feuds. If she doesn’t, she doesn’t,” he says. “We don’t even look at things that are negative. She’s not crying; she’s not punching holes in the walls … We really don’t have time to stress or be sad or be mad because tomorrow, the next day, we have to work, we have meetings, we have a brand.”
