It looks like we’ll have to find another British aristocratic family to care about in 2016 after Downton Abbey’s final season airs.

According to TV Line, the period drama will conclude after the upcoming sixth season. British network ITV, which produces Downton, usually airs the show in fall, followed by PBS in January.

The main reason is that the cast’s contracts expire and most of the actors are ready to explore other projects. Plus, six seasons is actually quite a long run for a British series, except for Doctor Who.

“You can keep the show going without Matthew and Sybill, but you can’t continue it without the entire Crawley family,” an insider noted.

Writer/creator Julian Fellowes already has his next project lined up: NBC’s The Gilded Age, a look at the upper crust in 1880s New York.
