Jon Hamm Opens Up About Surprise Rehab Stint

Jon Hamm breaks his silence about his unexpected 30-day stint in rehab, which he recently completed ahead of the last season premiere of Mad Men.

In his first public appearance at the Black and Red Ball in Los Angeles, CA last night (March 25, 2015), a dapper Hamm spoke to Australia’s TV Week about his alcohol addiction.

“Life throws a lot at you sometimes, and you have to deal with it as much as you can. I’ve been very fortunate that throughout the most recent 24-hour period, I’ve had a lot of family and friends support me.”

On his character Don Draper (who drinks heavily throughout the series), “Obviously there can be a lot of discussion about how much of this is related to that, and honestly I don’t have much to say about that either,” the actor continued. “I’ve said in varying ways that acting can be a difficult endeavor, certainly not as difficult as the recent example I used [in GQ’s April 2015 issue] of being a baby heart surgeon.”

“It does present its own challenges, and so does life,” he added. Furthermore, he doesn’t plan on discussing his rehab treatment extensively and asks for privacy. “I understand it constitutes news these days, but it’s between me and my family and not something for public consumption,” he explained.

Earlier this week, the news broke that the 44-year-old discreetly checked in to rehab at Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut in late February. His publicist revealed to TMZ, “With the support of his longtime partner Jennifer Westfeldt, Jon Hamm recently completed treatment for his struggle with alcohol addiction. They have asked for privacy and sensitivity going forward.”
