Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson Break Silence After Zayn Malik’s Departure

Bye, Zayn
Zayn Malik has left One Direction.

The (remaining) One Direction boys have spoken.

Hours after Zayn Malik rocked legions of One Direction fans the world with his announcement that he’s leaving the group for good, the remaining members took to Twitter to digest their new work situation.

Harry Styles, who made headlines of his own with a tearful concert moment in Jakarta and a new rumor that he too, is leaving the group, had nothing but love to give.

Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan had more words than Styles:

In somewhat related Twitter news, Geri Halliwell posted this cryptic message Wednesday afternoon. Many believe the tweet is directed to Malik:

Pop music enthusiasts will recall that Ginger Spice quit the Spice Girls in 1998. Our lives were forever changed. (And we were punished with a mediocre, post-Ginger album, Forever).

Malik, who last performed with the group on Mar. 18 in Hong Kong, officially quit on Wednesday (Mar. 25, 2015) in a statement published on 1D’s Facebook page. The remaining members will complete their international tour and fifth studio album as a foursome.

The boys are due in Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium for two shows on Saturday, before heading to Cape Town and Dubai in April.

Update at 3 p.m. EST: Liam has posted a longer message on Twitter, assuring Directioners everywhere that the group and Zayn will “always remain the closest friends.”

In light of recent events I think this is important to say.
For the past five years now I’ve been part of something so special I don’t think any of us really understand, something that can mean the world to people and put a smile on the face of our fans even in the darkest times. To a lot of people it’s just a bunch of silly kids in a band but to the people involved it means so much more. This last week has been some of the worst times, possibly the worst it’s something we are all deeply saddened by. It’s sad to think for the time being we won’t grace the stage as five bros or have the same fun on a tour bus or laughs in a hotel together that we have over the years but I’m super sure us and zayn will always remain the closest friends. I guess what I’m really trying to say is it’s far from over. When we very 1st became successful we all agreed that one direction had become much bigger than each individual member that’s why I feel like right now it’s ok to be sad and upset but I do ask everyone who is a fan of us to please keep ur faith in us I’m sure there’s a lot more to come all love
Liam
