Vanessa Hudgens Opens Up About the Struggles of Dating Zac Efron
Speaking on her role in Broadway’s Gigi, the 26-year-old opened up to the New York Times about her life, including her five-year relationship with the hunky heartthrob and the struggles that came with it.
“I went through a phase when I was really mean because I was so fed up,” Hudgens explained, referring to Efron’s enormous legion of female fans. “Girls were running after him, and I was giving them death stares.”
She soon got over that challenge and came to realize that those fans were also her fans. “Then I realized that’s not what that’s about. ‘Spread the love, be a good person, they support you, be nice.'”
Despite teaching herself to cope with the attention Efron received from the ladies, their relationship eventually came to an end. Hudgens has moved on with fellow actor Austin Butler who has reignited her Christian faith.
The couple attend services at the ever-popular, millennial-packed Hillsong church. “It feels like Arcade Fire — it’s epic like that,” Hudgens described of the church’s experience. “They really focus on you having your own personal relationship with Jesus, which is wonderful.”
Christianity aside, the actress also find spirituality in dreamcatchers and nature. “I’m a definite hippie,” Hudgens admits. “I’m literally my happiest self when I’m dancing half naked on a grass field listening to Led Zeppelin.”
