Is Rihanna’s ‘BBHMM’ a Rip-Off from Houston Singer Just Brittany’s ‘Betta Have My Money’?

Queen Rihanna is being accused of plagiarizing her hit song “Bitch Better Have My Money” from fans of Houston singer Just Brittany.

You see, Just Brittany has a 9-month old track called “Betta Have My Money.” So aside from similarities in song title, is there really any meat supporting this beef?

One could say the hooks are similar, but the melodies are not. Alas, listen below and you be the judge.

Aside from the irony that Rihanna could owe Just Brittany some cash for a song entitled “Bitch Better Have My Money,” this accusation comes at a time in which the spotlight is on copyright and plagiarism in the music industry.

A couple weeks ago, Marvin Gaye’s estate was awarded $7.2 million in the “Blurred Lines” lawsuit against Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke and T.I., who were accused of ripping off Gaye’s “Got to Give it Up.” After the verdict was reached, Williams, Thicke and T.I. said in a joint statement,

While we respect the judicial process, we are extremely disappointed in the ruling made today, which sets a horrible precedent for music and creativity going forward.

‘Blurred Lines’ was created from the heart and minds of Pharrell, Robin and T.I. and not taken from anyone or anywhere else.  We are reviewing the decision, considering our options and you will hear more from us soon about this matter.
