Kylie Jenner Responds to People Accusing Her of Wearing Blackface in New Photo Shoot

Kylie Jenner: Please Check Out My Butt

Kylie Jenner posted some controversial looking Instagram posts yesterday (April 4, 2015) in which she may or may not be wearing blackface in a new photo shoot.

Wearing heavy makeup per usual and a considerable amount of glitter, this time her face was shimmying a wee on the dark side (thanks to manipulations in lighting and possibly other digital modifications).

The photos left many people thinking she was wearing blackface, resulting in Jenner being on the receiving end of significant backlash on social media.

The 17-year-old originally posted the above photo with jut the caption “@marcelocantuphoto @joycebonelli @chrisdylanhair @hubblestudio.”

She’s since updated it with the words, “This is a black light and neon lights people lets all calm down.”

Jenner had also posted a second picture to Instagram with the caption, “What I wish I looked like all the time thank you @marcelocantuphoto.”

The post has since been taken down, but was regrammed on her hair stylist @chrisdylanhair’s account:

Jenner has nearly 20 million followers on Instagram, and while she has nearly 1 million likes on the photo, she also has received tons of comments criticizing her for the photo shoot.

Her makeup artist Joyce Bonelli posted this photo of Jenner to her Instagram, with the caption “|blue/black/white/gold| Photo by me. Model @kyliejenner. Makeup @joycebonelli. Hair @[email protected] #shiny #metallic #alien.”

Assuming the look of the shoot that they were going for is something futuristic and alien-like, the lines between art and cultural appropriation are still quite blurred.

Jenner posted these comments on Twitter:

She then posted on Instagram, with the caption “goodnight @[email protected] @ChrisDylanHair”:

Whether or not Jenner will be making any other statements on the matter at hand, only time will tell.

Nonetheless, the objective of the photo shoot is not readily apparent, even though Jenner’s appearance is the result of her makeup and lighting (and possibly some other digital alterations).

Neither Jenner nor her team have made any other official statements regarding the shoot.
