Kathy Bates Joins ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’

Exciting news for fans of American Horror Story!

Kathy Bates will return to season five of FX’s horror anthology with a central role; this time around, it’s AHS: Hotel.

The iconic Oscar-winning actress will be starring in American Horror Story: Hotel as the manager/owner (or something like that), according to creator Ryan Murphy.

He succinctly tweeted out today,

This season’s AHS cast is already pretty spectacular, as it includes previously announced members Lady Gaga, Matt BomerChloë Sevigny, and newbies Wes Bentley and Cheyenne Jackson.

Sadly, the phenomenal Jessica Lange, who’s been part of AHS since the beginning, has departed from the series this season. This means Bates is the only past season regular who’s confirmed her return to the show.

Bates made her AHS debut with Coven (season 3) as Madame Marie Delphine LaLaurie, winning an Emmy for her role as the evil and immortal New Orleans socialite serial killer (based off the real Madame LaLaurie).

She then portrayed the bearded lady Ethel Darling on Freak Show (season four).

Last month, Bates expressed to Us Weekly her anticipation for season five of AHS.

“I’m keeping my fingers crossed,” she said on March 17 at a panel honoring the women of American Horror Story.

“I sure would love to work with Lady Gaga and I’m gonna miss Jessica so. I’d like to move on and be a part of the new crew. I hope they announce it soon.”

AHS: Hotel will begin filming its 13-episode series in Los Angeles in late summer, rather than New Orleans, where the last two seasons were filmed.

It will debut on FX in October 2015. We’re so ready.
