Zayn Malik Pays Tribute to One Direction at Asian Awards
Call him a new, reinvented man.
Zayn Malik, his new nose piercing and his new buzzcut went to the Asian Awards with his mother Trisha Malik as his date last night, where he was honored for Outstanding Achievement in Music and gave a heartfelt speech in honor of his former One Direction bandmates.
It’s the first time we’re hearing straight from the now solo artist’s mouth since he left the group…rather, it’s perhaps one of the first times we’ve ever heard Malik speak at an awards ceremony.
The 22-year-old even admitted to the crowd, “I’m not really a guy of many words, normally…I don’t really normally do the speeches. But obviously, I have to say thank you for this, this is an amazing evening. I’m massively honored to be here tonight.”
Malik, whose father is British-Pakistani and mother is British, continued his sweet speech saying,
It’s incredibly humbling to accept an award on the same stage as some people I’ve looked up to throughout my entire life…and to be gifted this award by one of by best friends, Naughty Boy, was also an amazing thing so. Tonight’s about thanks. I want to thank God for allowing me to be able to do what my dreams were. I’d like to thank my Mom and Dad for making me Asian, and for allowing me to have some effect on the Asian community. It’s a massive honor.
I’d also like to take this moment to thank four of the best guys I ever met whilst being in the band and doing all the amazing things that I did. The things that we did will stay with me for the rest of my life, and I thank you for that… Here’s to the future! Thank you very much for everything tonight.
