WATCH: Salma Hayek Casually Eats a Grasshopper
Move aside, avocado toast.
The Mexican bombshell munched on a chapulines, or spicy grasshoppers, which are a traditional ingredient in Oaxacan cuisine.
This is not the first time that Hayek has openly expressed an affection for insects. In an interview on the Late Show in 2009, she explained to David Letterman, “The little grasshoppers have a smoky flavor to them. It’s the way they cook them, and it’s really good.”
As if her video wasn’t enough food for thought, Hayek followed up her video with a tight shot of her six-legged snack in profile.
Chapulines can be fried or toasted with chili, lime, and garlic and eaten with guacamole, or stuffed inside a taco for added crunch.
It’s only a matter of time before we see these little critters pop up next to cheddar cheese in the Qdoba burrito bar.
