WATCH: ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Says Goodbye to Nina Dobrev in Emotional Season Finale Promo

Nina Dobrev Leaving 'The Vampire Diaries'
And it's happening sooner than we thought.

Bring out the tissues because next week’s episode of The Vampire Diaries will probably be the last time you see Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert.

Thursday (May 7, 2015) night’s episode, titled “I’ll Wed You in the Golden Summertime,” ended with Elena’s life hanging in the balance — and while fans are still holding out hope for her recovery, we know that’s very unlikely to happen.

During the episode, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is contemplating whether or not to turn into a human.

I’m taking it [the cure]. I’ve been a vampire for a long time, Elena. It’s been a blast. But I would give it up to be your husband. Your partner. The father of your kids. I love you, and I will love you until I take my last breath on this Earth.

In a perfect Vampire Diaries world, he and Elena would live happily ever after as humans. Instead, all the love and romance is ruined after the character Kai (Chris Wood) attacks everyone, leaving Elena for dead.

The promo for next week’s season finale is an emotional walk down memory lane. At the end of the montage, we hear Elena saying the quote she said to Damon in this season’s premiere: “There’s nothing more I could ever want than for it to last forever, but it can’t.”

We’re already tearing up just thinking about it.
