Miley Cyrus, Laura Jane Grace and Joan Jett Hold Backyard Session for Homeless and LGBT Youth

Miley Cyrus: 'I’m Not Hiding My Sexuality'
Feminist and LGBT rights advocate Miley Cyrus opens up about her sexuality.

Miley Cyrus performed an amazing backyard jam session with Against Me!‘s Laura Jane Grace and the eponymous rocker Joan Jett, benefitting Cyrus’ new Happy Hippy Foundation (which she launched earlier this week).

As a trio, they sung Jett and The Replacements’ 1984 song “Androgynous.”

The 22-year-old LGBT rights advocate also performed “Different” with Jett, “No Freedom,” and “True Trans Soul Releb” with Grace as part of her Backyard Sessions (first posted exclusively to her Facebook).

These Backyard jams are spectacular not just because we’re so ready for summer music festivals and barbecues, but more importantly but Cyrus is working hard for her cause supporting homeless and LGBT youth, as well as other vulnerable populations.

And that is something we can – and should – all get behind.

Happy Hippie Presents: “True Trans Soul Rebel” featuring Laura Jane Grace and Atom of Against Me!Honored to join Laura Jane Grace and Atom of Against Me! in performing their song “True Trans Soul Rebel” as part of the #backyardsessions. LOVE that I finally get to share it with allllllll you happy hippies!!! #HappyHippiePresents The Happy Hippie Foundation

Of her Backyard Session duet with Jett for “Different,” Cyrus revealed (in her speech inducting Jett into the Rock and Roll hall of fame last month):

“She was running around our backyard. She was with my dogs, playing with my pig, and I played the Tibetan bowls for her at sunset.”

Jett told Rolling Stone, “I think what Miley’s doing is wonderful and important to help people find their authentic selves. I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Cyrus said passionately in a statement:

Pointless judgment and its effects are unfortunately something that is way too common. All humans have valid feelings and rights! I want to use my voice as a megaphone to young people everywhere and encourage human evolution. No one should have to hide who they really are, no matter what his or her name, gender or status. That’s why Happy Hippies are here to say that every life is valuable!
