WATCH: Kendrick Lamar Reveals How He Got Involved with Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’

Kendrick Lamar made a rare TV appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show (airing today, May 27, 2015), where he performed “These Walls” and spoke about working with Taylor Swift on her chart-topping song and video for “Bad Blood.”

Lamar, who recently got engaged to his high school sweetheart Whitney Alford, also just won a Grammy award for “i,” the lead single off of his masterpiece fourth studio album “To Pimp a Butterfly.”

When Degeneres asked him his opinion on what it means to be a “positive icon,” Lamar explained, “It means everything to me because I know there’s a lot of kids in my neighborhood that’s watching TV and saying ya know what, I want to be a positive influence just like Kendrick Lamar or who ever’s out there doing something for the good of the culture and for music.”

The inspirational Lamar, who’s from Compton originally, credited his parents adding, “I blame that for my parents ya know they put something in my heart to do something more than what I was raised around. And taking all my influence whether negative or positive and doing it in the right way.”

As for his involvement with Swift’s “Bad Blood,” Lamar said, “Oh, man. She reached out. Ya know I always been a fan of hers and she was a fan of my music and she reached out man and we got it done.”
