LISTEN: Little Mix Clarifies Britney Spears Comments, Sings ‘Pretty Girls’
Yesterday, we told you about Little Mix revealing that they passed on the song “Pretty Girls.” They band co-wrote the song, but decided to pass on it and it ended up being a single for Spears and Iggy Azalea.
“We wrote [“Pretty Girls”] with Maegan Cottone, who we’ve written a lot of this album with,” Jade Thirwall told The Sun. “We loved the song but it wasn’t really for us so we put it out there and, lo and behold, Britney wanted it.”
Jesy Nelson revealed, “We’ve been away a while because we wrote an album, sat with the record label and we thought, ‘Nope, it’s not good enough.’ We recorded a whole album but we’re perfectionists and knew we could do better. So we scrapped it and started again.”
After the comments were published, many people believed that the band was throwing shade at Spears. But, today they’re clarifying those comments.
The band went on Capitol FM radio show on Thursday (May 28, 2015), and discussed how Spears ended up with the song. In the video below, the band is asked why they didn’t end up with the song. The band explains, “Well, as we were writing the song, we realized that it sounded more like it should be for somebody else, rather than us. We absolutely think it’s perfect for Britney, she’s absolutely smashing it.”
