The writers over at Family Guy might have some serious future-telling abilities.

A phony petition to revoke Caitlyn Jenner’s Olympic medal tricked several media outlets this morning.

The letter requesting to strip the Olympian of her 1976 gold medal surfaced on Change.com proposing that “Bruce Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner are two entirely different people” sparked inevitable controversy. The petition called for action in support of the transgender community, urging Jenner to turn in his medals “earned by competing against the wrong gender.”

Celebrity news websites jumped to report on the outrageous call to action until The Daily Dot reported that it was a hoax organized by community members of the imageboard website, 4chan.

As is often the case with most 4chan pranks, the underlying motivations are as juvenile as “for the lulz.” But in this particular case, Jenner’s transformation only fuels /b/ and /pol/’s longtime obsession with ridiculing and sharing photos of transgender people.

Planning for the distasteful prank has spread throughout 4chan threads since Monday.

Although Jenner will not have to return her medal, the avid golfer must reset her impressive 5.3 handicap due to the U.S. Golf Association regulations now that she identifies as a female.

Let it be noted that Celebuzz was not fooled by these “trolls” because we were too busy celebrating Betty White’s inauguration to Instagram.
