Laverne Cox Will Be Madame Tussauds’ First Transgender Wax Figure

You know you’ve made it when Madame Tussauds makes a wax figure out of you.

Laverne Cox will be the first transgender wax figure to join the long list of stars featured at the famed wax museum.

The Orange is the New Black star’s wax figure will debut during the San Francisco Pride press conference June 26. She’ll be installed alongside the wax likenesses of celebs including Anne Hathaway and Leonardo DiCaprio.

I am so deeply honored to have been asked to be part of the Madame Tussauds legacy. When I think about being who I am, a black trans woman from a working class background raised in Mobile, Alabama, this honor feels even more improbable and extraordinary. I hope that this will be a source of inspiration for everyone who encounters it to believe that their dreams matter and are possible.

This is the second time she’s making history. Last year, the actress was the first transgender woman to be nominated for an Emmy award.

Now, Cox will be preserved for all eternity at Madame Tussauds.
