UPDATE: Kristen Stewart’s Mom Says K-Stew Is Dating Alicia Cargile: ‘What’s Not to Accept?’
Over the weekend, to the collective cheers (and tears) of many, Kristen Stewart’s super cool mom confirmed that K-Stew is in a relationship with her former assistant Alicia Cargile. She (and we) couldn’t be more supportive about it.
Stewart and Cargile, who are often seen at the airport or out and about in LA together grabbing coffee (because they really never have a moment of privacy from the pervasive paparazzi), have been rumored to be dating for some time now.
“What’s not to be accepting about her now having a girlfriend? She’s happy.” She added, “She’s my daughter, I’m just her mom so she knows I would accept her choices.”
She’s also met Alicia and totally approves (as do we!), because duh. “I’ve met Kristen’s new girlfriend, I like her. What’s not to accept? She’s a lovely girl.”
Jules offered several other notes of support and positivity:
I feel like people need to be free to love whoever they want. I accept my daughter loves women and men. It’s OK to be who you are in my world. We all choose our friends so we should be free to choose our lovers.
People are good to do whatever they like as long as they’re not hurting people or breaking the law.
I have gay friends, family members, I’m accepting of people, we are all free to choose who we want to love.
Of course, who’s dating who is everyone’s own personal business and we’re not sure how K-Stew feels about her mom gushing about her and her girlfriend to the press (moms just love to brag though). But nonetheless, we’re overjoyed to hear her mom’s words of acceptance, even if she did kind of confirm the news for the first time.
Stewart’s highly-publicized, longtime relationship with Robert Pattinson ended over two years ago under intense and outrageous media scrutiny when Stewart was photographed kissing her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. Everyone has since moved on. Pattinson is now engaged to FKA twigs, while Sanders and his wife Liberty Ross divorced.
Her mom also commented on K-Stew’s relationship Pattinson, saying, “They were a great couple, but she’s 25 years old and I’d like to see her have a lot more life experience before she chooses someone to settle down with. I’m very sad that Kristen and Robert didn’t have a chance to be alone together, they had to have the whole world with them and all the public stuff ruined everything, life became overwhelming.”
However, she added, “But Kristen has learned to handle her emotions and deal with her problems through the martial arts.”
Martial arts? *Swoon*.
We love this beautiful couple, and thanks to K-Stew’s mom for her loving words.
Update — Jun. 15, 3:45 p.m. ET:
So about those quotes…
Us Weekly reports that Jules Stewart is debunking the Mirror interview which was conducted with Sharon Feinstein, and says she never once discussed her daughter’s love life.
I spoke to Sharon Feinstein about my film K-11 that has been put on display in the Hollywood Museum. It’s currently there under the LGBT banner on the third floor. She also asked me about my views on gay rights, which I was happy to express. Then we talked briefly about the fundraiser I am hosting for TheWolfConnection.org. Never ever did we discuss Kristen!
After noting she was a “huge supporter of gay rights,” she said she was asked about Alicia Cargile and whether or not she knew her. Stewart claims she remarked, “I said, ‘Yes, she’s a lovely girl,’ ” but that is all.
