Yes, They’re Finally Making a Taco Emoji
Justice has been served — and boy, does it taste great.
After endless memes and petitions, the public’s demand for a taco emoji has been heard and the Mexican dish is being added to Unicode 8.0, the industry standard for maintaining consistent text across languages and computers, on June 17.
Other food-related emojis approved include a burrito, a hot dog, a bucket of popcorn, and a cheese wedge. (In other words, you will be able to tell your friends about your trip to Taco Bell, Chipotle, Wienerschnitzel, the movie theater, and the local cheese store all without using actual words.)
The inclusion of these emojis in Unicode standard doesn’t guarantee that they’ll be adopted by Apple’s iOS or Google’s Android, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction as future updates are likely to feature these new emojis.
We did it, guys!
