#MCM: Quincy Talks ‘Dope’ Movie, Opens Up About His Famous Family
Quincy has grown up in the spotlight, but he’s working hard to show that he can make it on his own.
This talented 24-year-old is the son of Kim Porter and singer Al B. Sure!. At the age of three, he was adopted by Diddy after his mom started a relationship with the mogul. Quincy was even featured on an episode of MTV’s My Super Sweet 16 with his mom and Diddy.
Growing up, Quincy wanted to be a baseball player, but because his family moved around a lot, he wasn’t able to play on his high school team. “Baseball was definitely a passion of mine in high school,” Quincy told us. “Because of my family being who my family is, we moved a lot, which caused me to miss a lot of school during the moving process.” Unfortunately, the moving around caused Quincy to be ineligible, and he couldn’t play on the team. But, instead of letting that get him down, Quincy found new passions, music and acting.
While many kids with famous parents use their connections to get ahead, Quincy is really working on his craft. He’s taken classes at top acting schools like Playhouse West and The Groundlings improv school in Los Angeles. He’s not just using his family to make it in the entertainment work, he’s training and it’s paying off.
Quincy’s movie, Dope, just opened in theaters on Friday, (June 19, 2015). This movie follows high school senior Malcolm (Shameik Moore), a geek who goes on a pretty crazy adventure. After going to a drug dealer’s birthday party, Malcolm and his two friends end up having to deliver a backpack full of drugs to a certain address.
When asked to describe the movie, Quincy told us, “Dope revolves around this kid, he’s a geek in high school, and of course, the trials and tribulations of living in the hood and being a geek, you know this movie just plays that at its finest.”
Quincy plays Jaleel, the son of the man Malcolm is supposed to deliver the backpack to. “They were told to deliver this baggage to my father,” Quincy explained. “Once they went to deliver it to my father, my father wasn’t there, and that’s when my character is introduced, Jaleel.”
What’s Jaleel like? “He’s a little arrogant,” Quincy told us. “But he loves music, and he tries to be this rapper, kind of like over-the-top, but that’s just how he is, that’s his demeanor, that’s his personality.”
Quincy went on to tell us, “The movie just lets you know that there’s a lot of situations in life that you may come into, but sometimes, if you handle things right, there’s always a way to get back up if you fall down.”

Before we let Quincy go, we had to ask him if he had a celebrity crush. Quincy revealed, “Do you know who I’ve been looking at lately? She’s beautiful, Gigi Hadid.” She is beautiful! That would be a gorgeous couple!
Quincy is definitely on his way to taking over the entertainment industry, just like his dad. He even told us that he’s open to collaborating with his dad in the future, or maybe his friends, like Justin Bieber. We can’t wait to see what’s to come for Quincy.
