Who Is Tom Holland? Meet Your New Spider-Man
There’s a new Spider-Man in town, but what do we really know about the man behind the mask?
Tom Holland has been announced as the new Peter Parker — and his superhero alter ego, natch — for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studio’s third Spider-Man franchise in 13 years. While his name may not be as a big as his predecessors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, the 19-year-old has already proven himself to be a force to be recognized.
Here are eight things to know about the actor who’ll play Spidey.
1. He’s British.
Like Garfield, Holland will have to work on his American accent as he plays the new web-slinger. He was born on June 1, 1996 in London, England.
2. His father is a comedian.
The actor is one of the four sons to Dominic Holland, a comedian who starred in his own radio program called The Small World of Dominic Holland.
3. He’s a trained dancer.
For his title role in Billy Elliot the Musical, Holland went through eight auditions and trained for two years before making his West End debut. He first played Michael, Billy’s best friend, before taking on the lead part two months later.
4. He’s an award-winning actor.
Holland was honored at the London Film Critics Circle Awards, Empire Awards, Young Artist Awards, and by the National Board of Review for his work in 2012’s The Impossible, a drama starring Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor about the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
5. He can probably do his own stunts.
Holland recently shared videos of himself doing some sweet air flips.
6. He’s taken. (Sorry, ladies!)
Holland is currently dating Elle Lotherington.
7. You’ll be seeing a lot of him.
Aside from the upcoming Spider-Man movie, Holland will also star in Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea.
