In a recent interview with The Drum, the reality star recalled thinking that her life was ruined when she called it quits with her second husband just 72 days after their nuptials. Explaining that she thought the short-lived marriage would tarnish her name, Kardashian claimed she told her family that their careers were over and they would have to — gasp! — live like plebs again.
“At the time when I was going through the divorce I did say to everyone, ‘You guys I think our careers are over. I hope you’ve saved your money. And now we’ll just continue to do our clothing stores and continue to do what we started off doing before the show,'” she said. “I totally thought it was over.”
Kardashian, whose courtship, wedding and subsequent separation with Humphries were all captured on Keeping Up With the Kardashian, added that she took a break from work following the breakup.
“I was being very paranoid,” she remembered. “I just took some time off and the time was really good for me. I cancelled everything. I had a book tour, I had a fragrance launch, I had everything that you could possibly imagine and I just cancelled it all and I took time for me.”
Kardashian filed for divorce from Humphries on Oct. 31, 2011, citing irreconcilable differences. At the time, Humphries’ legal team tried to claim that their marriage was a fraud and asked that it be annulled. The basketballer eventually dropped his request, including his demand of $7 million, and the divorce was finalized April 2013.
