NeNe Leakes Spreads Her Wings, Quits ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’

NeNe Leakes is leaving the Real Housewives of Atlanta after serving sass for seven seasons on the show.

Leakes explained to People that her mind was settled after much discussion with her husband, Gregg Leakes. The reality star decided that the end of her contract with Bravo would signify new beginnings. “This is my opportunity to spread my wings and do different things,” Leakes declares in her official statement.

The original cast member already has plans for her television presence post-Housewives.

“I’m actually going to be doing a new primetime television show with a big legend. All of my fans will get to see me be really happy, witty and funny.”

Leakes revealed to UsWeekly in April that this “legend” is reality queen Kim Kardashian. Her first small-screen appearance with the celebutante debuted on Saturday when she joined the cast of Kardashian’s mobile app “Kim Kardashian Hollywood”.

This exit will be a breath of catharsis for Leakes as she distances herself from the show’s toxic drama. “I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders,” she shares. “I won’t miss the negativity.”

Bravo executive producer Andy Cohen took to Twitter to congratulate Leakes on her new endeavor.

It appears that she is already taking Cohen up on his offer with an ominous aside in her statement. “I’m not saying I’m gone forever,” she teases. “I’ll probably pop up and play with those girls every now and then.”

The Real Housewives of Atlanta: 100th Episode ‘Watch What Happens Live’ Special airs on Sunday, July 12 at 8 p.m. EST on Bravo.
