[UPDATED] WATCH: First Look at Netflix’s Adaption of Lemony Snicket’s ‘Series of Unfortunate Events’

Your inner child is gonna scream with excitement.

The first teaser trailer for Lemony Snicket’s beloved children series A Series of Unfortunate Events is here, and the 35 seconds will make your day.

Netflix announced last year that such a sinister live-action series was happening, to the excited rouse of an entire generation. It must be noted, however, that new user “Eleanora Poe” (the name of a character from the series) posted the trailer rather than Netflix’s own youtube account.

The first of Snicket’s – aka pseudonymous author Daniel Handler’s – 13 books was adapted into a film (Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events) in 2004 starring Jim Carey and Jude Law, but the planned sequels for the second and third books never happened.

Watch the teaser above, and keep an eye out for cynical symbols and other little touchstones from the books like the Lachrymose Leeches, Klaus’ glasses, the eye, and Count Olaf’s shadow.

No word yet on a premiere or release date, however the show is included in Netflix’s “Coming Up in 2015 & 2016″ list.

Update — July 6, 1:30 p.m. ET:

As previously mentioned in the article, this video was posted not by Netflix’s youtube account but by “Eleanora Poe.” Variety is now reporting that the account is a fan account, and unfortunately this isn’t an official trailer of any sort.

A rep for Netflix said, “This was not released from Netflix and not anything official.”

Way to break our hearts with this unauthorized teaser! And props to the talented creators of the video for getting their teaser to go viral (it’s garnered over 800,00o views and counting since it was uploaded yesterday).
