Giuliana Rancic Departs ‘E! News’, Continues as ‘Fashion Police’ Deputy Sheriff
The pop culture anchor released a statement to the press late Wednesday evening announcing her departure from the show. The network describes her decision as a “transition out of her day-to-day role”, as she will continue hosting Fashion Police and Live from the Red Carpet.
“For more than a decade, I was fortunate enough to play a role in the success of E! News and will miss my family at the show,” Rancic described in her press release.
“This is such a thrilling time for me and I thank the gang at E! for understanding my desire to embark on this next chapter in my life.”
Just months ago, Rancic was under fire for describing singer Zendaya’s dreadlocks as smelling like “patchouli or weed” on the Oscars red carpet, which she passed off as a result of poor editing. This commentary incited a feud with Fashion Police co-host Kelly Osbourne, who subsequently resigned from the late Joan Rivers’ sartorial panel with the show’s interim host Kathy Griffin to follow.
E! general manager Adam Stotsky commented on Rancic’s decision,“During her time here, Giuliana played an instrumental role in building E! News into a global entertainment news powerhouse. We will miss seeing her on set every day.”
Rancic recently released her highly-anticipated memoir Going Off Script, a chronicle of her journey to becoming a TV anchorwoman offering an insider’s perspective on celebrity culture. Her final day on E! News will be Monday, August 10.
