Future Denies Cheating on Ciara, Says He Felt ‘Embarrassed for Her’ During Split
Despite reports claiming that the “I Bet” singer broke off her engagement with the rapper after discovering his affair with stylist Tyrina Lee, Future insists that he was faithful to his fiancée throughout their relationship. Speaking with HuffPost Live, the emcee says he simply “grew apart” from Ciara because he wanted to “go back to Atlanta” and she didn’t.
“I feel like we were just growing away from each other and we grew apart,” he explains of their breakup. “And it’s just so much dealing with—when you’re in a relationship and you the man and you want to make certain decisions for yourself and she want to make certain decisions.”
“The engagement had been called off. I called it off way before any cheating rumors,” he continues. “I said it wasn’t going to work. She didn’t say cool but she wasn’t too mad because I explained it to her how it was.”
If that isn’t a shady enough answer for you, Future goes on to say that he felt “embarrassed for” Ciara when word got out that the couple of one year had called it quits. Referring to Ciara’s interview with Brides magazine that had published just around the time news of their separation broke, Future explains the timing of everything was just really awkward while — once again — insisting that he didn’t cheat.
“I felt embarrassed for her because you love someone you don’t want them to feel uncomfortable. And I was like I didn’t ever tell the media that we had called off the engagement and then when it started coming out, everybody assumed it was because of cheating,” he says, adding that it’s a “total lie” when rumors claim he has been a bad dad to their son, Future Jr.
Since the split, Ciara, 29, has started dating Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. According to the two, they are abstaining from sex until marriage — something that Future, 31, says he doesn’t necessarily agree with.
Recalling his previous relationship with Ciara, Future remembers that he actually prayed with his then-girlfriend after the first time they had hooked up.
“God didn’t tell me that. God told me something else. He didn’t tell me to wait, I guarantee that,” he notes. “We prayed afterwards though. After we did it, we prayed. That’s a true story.”
Whether it’s really true or not, Ciara doesn’t seem too happy with Future’s comments about their romantic past. Supposedly responding to her former beau, she tweets:
Oof. Something tells us there’s another side to Future’s story.
