“I’m honestly curious to know why a human being would feel compelled to do that? How is that fun?” Kimmel said in his monologue, referring to Walter Palmer, the American dentist who killed Cecil in Zimbabwe earlier this month.
The comedian and talk show host also took a stab at Bill Cosby in the emotionally charged bit.
“Is it that difficult for you to get an erection that you need to kill things that are stronger [than you]? If that’s the case, they have a pill for that… Just stay home and swallow it and you save yourself a lifetime of being the most hated man in America who never advertised Jello pudding on television.”
Palmer, whose practice in Bloomington, MN has since been shut down, lured 13-year-old Cecil out of his habitat in Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park and shot the cat with a bow and arrow. Cecil would survive for some 40 more hours before being killed with a gun, then skinned and decapitated under Palmer’s watch. The hunters also tried to destroy the GPS Cecil was wearing as part of a long term research with Oxford’s Wildlife Conservation Research Unit.
Kimmel, who choked up while promoting the Oxford organization that studied Cecil during his lifetime, also likened Palmer’s past hunts to killing “like half of Noah’s ark.”
Still, a witch hunt is not the answer, according to Kimmel.
“If you want to make this into a positive… make a donation, support them [WildCRU]. At the very least. Maybe we can show the world that not all Americans are like this jackhole, this ‘top dentist’ here.”
Kimmel is the latest celebrity to comment on Cecil’s heartbreaking ending, joining the likes of Ricky Gervais, Olivia Wilde, and Cara Delevingne.
It's not for food. It's not the shooting, or tin cans would do. It must just be the thrill of killing. Mental. http://t.co/0fjtXoC1ML

What an excellent example of evil cowardice as Dr Walter Palmer beheads that majestic creature. That title “Dr” should be revoked.

I hope that #WalterPalmer loses his home, his practice & his money. He has already lost his soul…

How dare you #walterpalmer !!!! As a South African and as a human being I can’t express how deeply saddened I am by this, what pleasure do you get out of doing such a thing!Seeing these animals alive in their natural habitat is such a blessing, you have to be so sick to want to kill such a majestic creature of God. You come to Africa with your dollars and euros thinking you can buy power by taking advantage of Africa’s poverty and paying people to help you kill an innocent creature. Disgusting! I hope you get what you deserve #walterpalmer 😢

Ohh the dentist “had no idea” the lion was famous. Because had he known, he would never have murdered it without asking for a selfie first. — olivia wilde (@oliviawilde) July 28, 2015
This #WalterPalmer is a poor excuse of a human being!

I can’t even put into words how this is making me feel, Dr. Walter J Palmer from Minnesota stay out of Africa!!!! Seriously breaks my heart. Bored idiots that think trophy hunting in Africa is a sport need to be stopped. How can we still allow people to hunt down these incredible animals. I want my kids to grow up seeing these animals in the wild, NOT on your wall….. #LetsEndThis #CecilTheLion 😓 #WalterPalmer #justice #Cecil Africa needs to unite against this.
