Naomi Campbell Pleads Guilty After Assaulting Paparazzo, Sentenced to Six Months in Prison
Looks like Naomi Campbell is going back to jail.
The supermodel was convicted by a Sicilian court on Friday (July 31, 2015) after assaulting a photographer in 2009. She was given a six month suspended prison sentence.
Apparently, the incident occurred when the photographer, Gaetano Di Giovanni, was snapping photos of the model and her former boyfriend, Vladimir Doronin. Campell lost her cool and hit him with her purse, scratching his eye.
E! News adds that Campbell intends to appeal, with her lawyer Guido Carlo Alleva saying in a statement: ”We are appealing the ruling surrounding the 2009 incident. Due to the ongoing legal process, we cannot discuss the matter further at this time.”
The paparazzo needed medical treatment following the incident and took three days to recover, the court heard. “I had just started taking some shots of her and I did not expect such a violent reaction,” Di Giovanni said in 2013.
To make matters worse, this isn’t the first time Campbell has had problems with the Law. In 1998, she was ordered by a court to attend anger-management classes after throwing her phone at someone. She also had to be bailed out of jail once after abusing a cop at Heathrow airport in London.
