Celebrities Confused Over False Report, Was Cecil the Lion’s Brother Jericho Actually Killed?

Conflicting reports are emerging as to whether Jericho, brother to Cecil the lion, was also killed in Zimbabwe on Saturday, August 1.

The Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force posted a Facebook status on Saturday afternoon reporting the illegal shooting of Jericho, who has been protecting his brother’s cubs since his death on July 6.

A chairman for the Task Force even provided Us Weekly with a statement confirming Jericho’s death. However, an Oxford University researcher tells CNN that he is “alive and moving as of 8 p.m. local time … based on the GPS data from the animal’s collar”.

“The GPS device didn’t suggest that Jericho was killed or that anything was out of ordinary” -Brent Stapelkamp, Zimbabwe field researcher

CNN posits that the death of Jericho would seal the fate of Cecil the lion’s cubs.

Jimmy Kimmel teared up earlier in the week discussing the lion’s illegal hunting on Jimmy Kimmel Live, questioning if Cecil’s hunter Walter Palmer enjoys killing things to compensate for getting an erection.

Celebrities and animal activists quickly took to Twitter to express their disgust at the alleged poaching following the initial report of Jericho’s death.
