WATCH: This #TBT Is All About a Young Jon Stewart and His First ‘Daily Show’ Ever
The year was 1999.
The Sopranos and Family Guy had series premieres in January of that year, along with the rebirth of The Daily Show and its new host, Jon Stewart. Stewart was a mere 36 years young and had succeeded Craig Kilborn, who went on to greener pastures (The Late Late Show). The rest, as they say, is late night talk show history.
As the world prepares for the last episode ever of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, let’s dial it back to Jan. 11, 1999 for his very first episode. Michael J. Fox was still on Spin City at the time and was Stewart’s very first guest. There was also a bit on the NBA lockout, which officially ended nine days later. Stephen Colbert (the character) was there, too.
Ah, look how far we’ve/they’ve all come…
Jon Stewart will hang up his Daily Show jersey tonight on Comedy Central with a 50-minute farewell episode. Here are some clips from 16 years ago.
