Matt Damon Says Ben Affleck Is Doing ‘Good’ After Jennifer Garner Split

Though Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been BFFs since they were kids, The Martian actor says he “wouldn’t give anybody any advice” about maintaining a successful marriage.

“I think marriage is insane,” he tells Entertainment Tonight, adding that Affleck is “good” after turning 43. “It’s a crazy idea but I love being married to my wife. So I wouldn’t tell anybody else about their relationship. But I’m lucky I found my wife. And I guess maybe, if there’s any secret … it’s to feel lucky.”

Damon, who is almost close to celebrating his 10-year anniversary with wife Luciana, adds that “much of it is out of your hands” when it comes to making a marriage work.

“I mean, I just had that conversation with my father this weekend. He says the same thing to me. Says it’s God’s grace, is what he said. Because you just don’t get lucky,” he explains.

Affleck and wife Jennifer Garner announced their separation just a day after their 10 year anniversary. At the time, the couple said in a joint statement:

“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.”
