Owen Wilson shared with Dallas Morning News that his father, Bob Wilson, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Wilson opened up about his 74-year-old father’s degenerative illness, admitting that his battle has been a “rough thing” for the family to cope with. He told the newspaper, “It’s one of those things where if somebody had said 10 years ago … that this is the position your dad’s going to be in, where he basically needs 24-hour care, you’d think, ‘Gosh, I won’t be able to handle that. That’s just not possible.”

The actor is surrounded with support from his brothers and fellow actors Luke Wilson and Andrew Wilson. Of his father’s influence, Owen admits,

“For me and my brothers, there just wasn’t a bigger influence on us.”

Wilson finds a silver lining in the somber situation, facing his reality head-on. “You just have to do your best to deal with it,” he said. “You’ve got no choice but to accept it. And then, you sort of still look for the things to be grateful for.”
